Lol, different maker, same internals. Consider that Agilent is the sole source and patent holder of the optical eye technology in every optical mouse, with the exception of those early Sun opticals. Last year was Microsoft's turn, this year is Logitech's shot at it. If things are consistent with the past few years, next year Microsoft will have the higher rate mouse.

Oct 05, 2018  Wow nice thread! I just recently gave up my intellimouse optical 1.1 from aliexpress for the g pro wireless which I will be making a short review later in the main thread. After using nothing but 1.1, WMO, or 3.0s for 15+ years i can finally say technology is.

No matter, the MX series is the highest speed optical, but the 3.0 versions of the MS opticals are the place to draw the line at. Yes, from MS Optical 3.0 (explorer and Optical) and later thru today's MX mice.they're all great for FPS gaming. The difference is noticeable though, if you go from an MS optical to a Logitech MX.

Archaeolept: I prefer the MX700 over the MX500, although the MX300 has a nice feel as well.the texture of the mouse itself seems to be different. Where the MX500 has texture on the primary and secondary button, the MX700 has none.

Wires or no, they're still great, and wouldn't go back to either the MS Optical or MS Explorer that I used to game with. Just be careful when you're buying the mouse. The place I went to had the Intellimouse Optical and Intellimouse Optical Special Edition for the same price, but the SE box gave the same DPI/whatever specs as the Explorer 3.0 one, so I got that. The boxes for both mice said version 1.1, so they probably had the same guts, but I went with the one that said the right stuff on the box.

AFAIK, the only real difference between the regular Intellimouse Optical and the Special Edition is that the SE is grey. I don't know if this will help, but I have had a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 for more than a year now. It is running as a PS/2 mouse, rather than USB, partly because all my USB ports are occupied! Anyway, its been good for games. I think the light at the bottom rather than ball qualifies it as optical! But I play Q3, Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, Q3TA, UT2003, UT etc (I only play FPS games) and it has been working really good for all these games.

I think setting the mouse acceleration and mouse speed too high causes problems though!
